The Traditional Canadian Folk Song from Newfoundland “She’s Like the Swallow” is a haunting yet beautiful piece of music. I reimagined and created a dream-like piano arrangement of the song keeping the tragic nature of the lyrics in mind. The floating melody reflects the movement of the swallow.
This piece is published in the Canadian National Conservatory of Music’s publication “Canadian Folksongs Volume 2” and the score can be purchased here: http://www.cncm.ca/canada-150-publications.html

LYRICS
She’s like the swallow that flies so high,
She’s like the river that never runs dry,
She’s like the sunshine on the lee shore,
I love my love and love is no more.
’Twas out in the garden this fair maid did go
Picking the beautiful prim-e-rose;
The more she plucked the more she pulled
Until she got her a-per-on full
It is out of those roses she made a bed,
A stony pillow for her head,
She laid her down, no word did say
Until this fair maid’s heart did break.
She’s like the swallow that flies so high,
She’s like the river that never runs dry,
She’s like the sunshine on the lee shore,
I love my love and love is no more.
