Maxime Verdoni is a French neoclassical pianist and composer from Bordeaux. He began sharing his compositions in 2020, blending sensitivity and creativity. His first works include original music for two collections of poems, written by Paul Lawton and Lucas Clavel, as well as a book of Celle qui aimait.
In 2023, he moved towards neoclassical with felt piano compositions, an intimate and refined style.
The following year, several of his pieces were selected for editorial playlists on Spotify and Apple Music, marking an important step in his musical journey.
Active within a neoclassical music label, Maxime has also collaborated with three independent
labels: Aemeralds, Nordic Euphony Records, and Nordic Instrumental Records. Through his music, he seeks to create moments of calm and shared emotion.
1. When and how did you realize that your whole life would be linked to music?
I discovered the piano at the age of 15, a little later than many, but it marked a decisive turning point in my life. The passion for this instrument quickly captivated me, and when I started composing in 2020, I felt this deep connection with music, as if it were obvious. From that moment on, it was impossible for me to imagine a life without it.
2. Which composer has most influenced your musical imagination?
Frédéric Chopin has deeply influenced my approach to the piano, with his pieces full of melancholy and poetic virtuosity. However, the contemporary world of Joep Beving has also had a major impact on my musical imagination, thanks to his minimalist and moving style, close to the music I like to create.
3. What is your main creative motto?
Give free rein to the imagination and inspiration of the moment without trying to reproduce what already exists. Each environment, each sound, each moment has a unique voice that I like to listen to and transcribe into music.
4. What would you like to express during your performance at the festival? What will your program consist of and why this choice?
I want to offer an immersive experience of musical improvisation. My program will be based entirely on the present moment: I will draw inspiration from the ambient atmosphere, the resonances of the piano and the energy of the audience to create unique pieces. This choice reflects my conviction that music is alive, always in motion.
5. What goals do you set for yourself, what projects do you have on the horizon?
My main goal is to become completely financially independent through music in the next five years, through my work as an artist and other creative projects that I will pilot. I also plan to collaborate more with international musicians and explore new forms of musical expression.
6. How do you see the future of piano music?
The arrival of AI is shaking up the musical landscape. While it may transform the way we discover music on platforms, it will never replace the emotion of a live concert. Piano music will continue to evolve with digital influences while preserving its unique and human dimension.
7. What does Paris represent for you, do you have a special relationship with this city and why did you accept the invitation to participate in the festival?
Paris represents for me the place where I discovered neoclassical music, a style that deeply inspired me. I played there for the first time on a grand piano in a private room, an experience that marked my artistic journey. I accepted this invitation with enthusiasm, because this festival is the perfect opportunity to return to this inspiring city, share my musical vision and meet other artists.
